Shoulder surgery on tap for Spurs’ Zach Collins

An MRI confirmed that San Antonio Spurs power forward Zach Collins sustained torn labrum in his right shoulder, the team announced Thursday.

Surgery is the next course of action for Collins, who suffered the injury with 10:50 remaining in the third quarter of the Spurs’ 123-95 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday. He is expected to be fully recovered for the start of the 2024-25 season, the team said.

Collins, 26, averaged 11.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 69 games (29 starts) this season for San Antonio.

He has contributed 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 314 career games (71 starts) with the Portland Trail Blazers and Spurs. He was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Gonzaga and traded to the Trail Blazers on draft night.
